Nuance Professional Services creates PrimeSeek’s price comparison speech application

PrimeSeek GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG and operator of the 11864 and 11833 telephone information services, is expanding its range of customer services with innovative speech applications from Nuance - its price comparison service took the award of "Best Value-Added Service"

Munich, 25 January 2008 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions, is bringing PrimeSeek the benefits of its proven speech recognition engine and Text-to-Speech solution for its automated information service. A whole range of information and services can be accessed on 11864, including up-to-date recommendations and price and product comparisons. The price comaparison speech application was distinguished by a Voice Award in the “Best Value-Added Service” category at this year’s Voice Days 2007 (www.voicedays.de) , the biggest speech event in Europe.

The company’s range of customer services includes a price comparison facility, which allows callers to quickly and easily check the best price for one or more products. Around 30,000 products are currently listed, mainly from the electronics, household equipment, home entertainment and computing segments. To check a price, the customer simply needs to state the manufacturer and the product name. The service then tells the caller the cheapest price and the contact details and telephone number of their nearest dealer. This information is output using Nuance’s Text-to-Speech technology. Both German and English brands and product names are recognised with confidence by the Nuance application.

The service is operated in partnership with guenstiger.de, a German online price comparison service. The database for the service, containing a wide range of brands and products, is updated once a week and delivered to the 11864 speech application.

The price comparison check recognises and processes both German and English words. The grammars required for recognition have been created and the speech application has been optimised to recognise and pronounce manufacturers and product names correctly. While the caller is speaking, all the grammars are automatically re-generated in different variants, allowing the customer to compose his or her input freely. For example, in the case of a mobile telephone with the reference 8942i, the variations “eighty-nine forty-two i” or “eight nine four two i", etc. are possible. All variations of the product name are recognised and processed, allowing the caller to compose his or her input and questions as freely as possible.

The grammars developed by the Nuance Professional Services Team automatically create dynamic content offline at regular intervals. Another exciting example is the 11864 ring tone download application, which is also supported by the Nuance Professional Services Team. A list of available ring tones is downloaded every week from a server at the supplier. An update process analyses and corrects the data, converts figures and numbers, automatically detects English words and creates a grammar capable of recognising several thousand tracks. This process ensures that the latest tracks are rapidly available in the application.
