Nuance Unveils Strategy and Solutions for Education Sector at BETT 2009

Nuance teams up with Microlink at BETT 2009 to demonstrate a better way to access a PC, and create and share documents

13 January 2009, London, UK - At BETT 2009, Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: NUAN), the world’s leading supplier of speech, keypad and imaging solutions, will outline how its strategy and solutions developed for education institutions deliver greater levels of PC accessibility to students, and easier document management within the classroom and administration offices. Underpinning the strategy and solution set, is Nuance’s award-winning range of Speech Recognition, Optical Character Recognition and Document Management solutions, developed to make it easier to create, edit and share documents. Nuance will be present with reseller Microlink PC on the stand.

Commenting on Nuance’s presence at BETT 2009, Mark Green, director of Education, Nuance EMEA, said: “Teaching and learning are fundamentally changing, and so too are the tools that facilitate the learning process. BETT is an ideal opportunity to discuss how these changes impact students and education institutions alike, and how products and initiatives from Nuance make it easy to adopt new methods of teaching and learning.”

Nuance will demonstrate the recently announced Learning Access Suite, a collection of powerful learning tools designed to make reading, writing and learning with a computer much easier. Featuring Dragon® NaturallySpeaking®, the world’s best-selling desktop speech recognition software, the Learning Access Suite has been developed in conjunction with major assistive solution providers Claro Software and Microlink PC. The Learning Access Suite is available immediately, for as little as £1.10 per pupil.

The Learning Access Suite enables all learners to see the relationship between the spoken and written word, as it offers both speech recognition and a facility to read back text. It is particularly beneficial to students with learning difficulties or upper body mobility disabilities, helping those students to take full advantage of a PC within the classroom. In addition to offering Dragon NaturallySpeaking, The Learning Access Suite also includes: the ClaroRead literacy support tool, (including text to speech features), ScreenRuler, Lightening Magnifier and screen reader. It also features ClaroView screen colour overlay tool, MindFull Concept Mapper, Colour Explorer and ClaroLingo language assistant.

Nuance’s productivity enhancing software, including Dragon NaturallySpeaking and the PDF+Scan Suite - a bundle of Nuance’s market-leading PaperPort, OmniPage and PDF Converter desktop applications - are all available through the Nuance EMEA Education Programme. This recently developed programme provides cost-effective purchasing options tailored for the needs of both students and education institutions.
